Every institution leaves a legacy.

EKLEKTOS is not asking Members to abandon, replace or redirect their existing philanthropic commitments.

We recognise that many prospective Members have already spent decades establishing extraordinary charitable foundations and supporting causes of deep personal importance.

Our ambition is to create opportunities for those existing initiatives to benefit from new relationships, complementary expertise, international collaboration and the collective capabilities of fellow Members.

The proposed EKLEKTOS Foundation will have its own distinct purpose, while the wider institution will respect and seek to strengthen the philanthropic commitments its Members already hold.

Its intended funding comes from the institution's own allocation of net revenue, not from Members' existing giving. Membership carries no requirement to donate to it, and any involvement will always be a matter of personal choice.

Two distinct things: the foundations Members already lead, and a Foundation the institution intends to establish.

Success takes many forms.

• Building a remarkable business.
• Advancing scientific understanding.
• Creating something that inspires people.
• Leading an organisation.
• Overcoming extraordinary challenges.
• Or dedicating a lifetime to improving the lives of others.

Those achievements can create something valuable beyond personal recognition.

Capability.

• The experience to recognise what might work.
• The judgement to understand what could go wrong.
• The relationships to bring people together.
• And sometimes, the resources to turn an idea into reality.

We believe there is extraordinary potential in bringing those capabilities together around worthwhile causes.

Not because every Member will share the same interests.

Nor because EKLEKTOS should tell successful people how to use what they have achieved.

But because the opportunity to contribute something meaningful can become one of life's greatest rewards.

The Foundation will be an invitation to explore what we might make possible together.

From the beginning, EKLEKTOS has been conceived with a commitment to dedicate a portion of its own financial success to philanthropic purposes.

EKLEKTOS intends to allocate 5% of its annual net revenue to the Foundation, subject to the formal adoption of its allocation policy and governance framework.

This is designed to be an institutional allocation, not a mandatory additional donation from Members.

As EKLEKTOS grows, we want its capacity to support worthwhile initiatives to grow alongside it.

The allocation policy, including the definition of net revenue, the timing of contributions and the governance of the Foundation, will be formally established before implementation.

We believe that building a commitment to generosity into the institution itself is important.

Because purpose should not depend entirely on occasional fundraising campaigns or the goodwill of a particular individual.

It should be part of how EKLEKTOS chooses to operate.

The Foundation is intended to operate through a clearly defined framework of responsible stewardship, appropriate governance and meaningful Member participation.

Its development will be guided by five principles:

• Purpose: Supporting initiatives capable of creating meaningful, lasting value.
• Member Participation: Encouraging Members to help identify and evaluate potential priorities.
• Due Diligence: Considering evidence, effectiveness and the needs of those an initiative aims to serve.
• Accountability: Establishing appropriate oversight and transparent reporting.
• Long-Term Impact: Valuing sustainable outcomes over short-term recognition.

The Foundation's formal governance, decision-making arrangements and financial allocation policy will be established before it begins operating.

One of the most exciting possibilities of the Foundation is the range of people who may help shape its direction.

Imagine the conversations that could take place between Members whose lives have been dedicated to very different fields.

Science. Education. Business. Healthcare. Culture. Conservation. Philanthropy. Public service.

Each may understand challenges and opportunities that others have never encountered.

We intend for Members to have a genuine voice in shaping the Foundation's priorities through a structured process of discussion, evaluation and voting, once its governance framework has been established.

The aim will not simply be to identify causes that sound worthy.

It will be to explore where the institution's collective knowledge, relationships and resources could make a meaningful difference.

The most compelling ideas may come from the conversations between people who see the world differently.

The EKLEKTOS Foundation is intended to have a broad outlook.

Its eventual priorities will be shaped through its governance arrangements and the interests and insights of Members.

Potential areas of support may include:

• Scientific Research: Supporting discoveries and ideas that could improve lives.
• Healthcare: Helping advance better outcomes for individuals and communities.
• Entrepreneurship: Encouraging enterprise, innovation and opportunity.

Funding may be essential.

Different forms of contribution can strengthen one another.

That is why we want the Foundation to reflect the wider philosophy of EKLEKTOS.

That experience, relationships, influence, knowledge and capital can become more valuable when brought together thoughtfully.

No Member should feel that their contribution is measured solely by the amount of money they give.

Nor should participation be an obligation.

We hope people will become involved because they discover something they genuinely care about and believe they can help.

There is no shortage of important causes in the world.

Nor of people who genuinely want to help.

The difficult part is often understanding what will make a lasting difference.

• Which initiatives have the potential to succeed?
• What evidence supports them?
• Who understands the communities they aim to serve?
• What risks should be considered?
• And how will we know whether meaningful progress has been made?

We want the Foundation to approach these questions with curiosity, care and humility.

• Drawing upon relevant expertise.
• Listening to those closest to the challenges being addressed.
• Considering both immediate needs and longer-term consequences.
• And recognising that good intentions alone do not guarantee good outcomes.

The Foundation's ambition should be to support initiatives thoughtfully, evaluate their effectiveness and learn from experience.

Because lasting impact is not measured simply by what we give, but by the difference it makes.

Some initiatives create change quickly.

Others take years.

• A child given access to education today may go on to transform the lives of others decades from now.

Not to claim that EKLEKTOS can solve every challenge.

But to recognise that thoughtful contributions, made consistently and with the right people involved, can create lasting value.

We may never know the full difference that one act of generosity, one introduction or one shared idea can make.

EKLEKTOS is still at the beginning of its journey.

Its Membership is yet to take shape.

The Foundation's future initiatives are still to be determined.

And much of what the institution may eventually achieve remains unknown.

But the belief behind it is already clear.

That the right people, brought together through trust and shared values, can make extraordinary things possible.

• For one another.
• And for people they may never meet.

We want the EKLEKTOS Foundation to become a lasting expression of that belief.
