Why I Founded EKLEKTOS

Joe Sillett
Founder & CEO

EKLEKTOS began with a question: What becomes valuable when access is no longer the problem?

My answer was relationships.

The Idea

Something was missing.

Over more than 25 years as an entrepreneur, I have had the privilege of building businesses, raising investment and working alongside people from many different industries and walks of life.

One lesson has remained constant.

The most important moments rarely begin with a transaction.

They begin with people. A conversation. An introduction. A piece of advice offered at precisely the right moment. Someone prepared to challenge your thinking. Or someone who simply believes in what you are trying to achieve.

The further I travelled through my own entrepreneurial life, the more convinced I became that trusted relationships are among the most valuable assets any of us will ever possess.

That belief became the starting point for EKLEKTOS.

Why An Institution?

I didn't want to build another network.

There are already countless ways for successful people to connect.

I wanted to create something different.

An environment where relationships are not measured by their immediate commercial value. Where people from completely different worlds can learn from one another. Where success brings an opportunity to contribute as well as receive.

Where technology quietly helps the right people find one another without becoming the reason they interact. And where the culture being established today can survive the people creating it.

That required something more ambitious than a network.

It required an institution.

The People

Character matters.

Achievement is important within EKLEKTOS.

But achievement alone is not enough.

I want the institution to contain people who are curious about others. People who share their knowledge. People who make introductions without asking what is in it for them.

People who have achieved extraordinary things but have nothing left to prove when they enter the room. People who understand that generosity and ambition can coexist.

Because ultimately the quality of EKLEKTOS will be determined by the character of the people who belong to it.

The Ambition

Build something that outlives us.

I don't want EKLEKTOS to become the largest organisation of its kind.

I want it to become one of the most trusted.

An institution where friendships are formed, wisdom moves between generations, extraordinary opportunities emerge naturally and Members genuinely enjoy belonging.

And one that, through the EKLEKTOS Foundation and the contribution of its Members, leaves something positive beyond itself.

If we build it properly, the most important chapter of EKLEKTOS should be written long after its founders are gone.

That is the ambition.

Closing

The founder begins the story.

The institution must write the rest. EKLEKTOS has been conceived with a simple responsibility: build something worthy of the people invited to belong to it. Then protect it carefully enough that future generations can make it better.
